FAKTOR USIA DAN JENIS KELAMIN PADA PASIEN NYERI PUNGGUNG BAWAH DI RUMAH SAKIT MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG SELAMA JANUARI 2012 SAMPAI DESEMBER 2012
Background: Lower back pain (LBP) is a neurological disease that is characterized by pain in the spine and the surrounding area as a result of squeezing of the sciatic nerve or nerve branch. Research regarding LBP in South Sumatra is still limited. In RSMH Palembang, data related to age and gender factors of the patient with LBP have not available yet. This study aims to determine the correlation between age and gender in patients with LBP. Method: This research is an observational descriptive study. The samples are patients with LBP who were recorded by medical records in RSMH Palembang during the period January 2012 until December 2012. The variables studied are age, gender, and duration of pain experienced. The collected data is presented in tabular form along with the description. Result: From the results obtained a total samples of 60 patients with LBP. Most patients are aged above 40 years (women) as much as 51.7%, female sex as much as 58.3%, and the duration of pain experienced is less than 6 weeks as much as 51.7%. Conclusion: It can be concluded that age and gender are related to LBP. The older the person is the more likely to experience LBP, female sex are also at risk to experience LBP than male by a ratio of 1.4:1 because besides of aging process women also experience menstrual cycle and menopause, while the duration of pain most commonly found is less than 6 weeks.
