Introduction: Retina Nerve Fiber Layer (RNFL) was defined as the mimber of pixels between the highly reflective layer at the vitreous surface and the points on each scan whose reflectrvity exceeded a specific threshold. ln D M patients with N P DR i t will decrease the thickness of RNFL t hal causes a decrease in visual acuity. The purpose of this study is to compare the mean thickness ofRNFL in D M patients with NPDR and DM patients without NPDR using OCT in the ophthahnology department ofRSMH Palembang. MethoA: This research was an observasiona/ analytic study. This study used two group of patients. Population of this study were all DM patients with impaired Vision complaints that are diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy. Sample of this study were all DM patients with diabetic retinopathy performed OCT in the ophthalmology department of RSMH Palembang period September to November 2013 that met the inclusion cr i teria. The study groups were 48 eyes of DM patients with NPDR and 48 eyes of DM patients without NPDR. The data analysis was performed by using statis/ical analytic and Mann-Whitney test with SPSS 1 7.0. Result: In the group of DM patients with NPDR, the mean thickness area of superior, inferior, nasal, and temporal RNFL was 122,3*8,8 p m, 124,9*11,4 pm, 77,1*9,7 p m, and 68,7 }6,2 pm. respectively. ln the group oj D M patients without NPDR, the mean thickness area of superior, inferior, nasal, and temporal RNFL was 125,6*6,9 pm, 130,8*7,1 pm, 82,6*8,1 pm, and 73,8 }9,5 pm respectively. There was significant difference in the mean thickness of RNFL in the superior between D M patients with NPDR and D M patients without NPDR (p 0,042). There were highly significant difference in the mean thickness of RNFL in the inferior, nasal, and temporal between DM patients with NPDR and DM patients without NPDR (p=0 003* p 0 003* p 0,002). Condusion: ln the group of DM patients with NPDR, the mean thickness area of superior, inferior, nasal, and temporal RNFL were thinner than the group of DM patients without NPDR.
