We often unexpected things in our Iive. Obstructions and constrains is a normal things faced in solving the problems, so do in the application of ABA therapy to treat the children with mental retardation. Method in ABA therapy plays an important roie in achieving satisfactory resuits. Therefore, it must be paid attentions, both in its management and the right selection, to obtain a perfect result. Mental retardation is a condition with the lack intelligence since the growth phase (congenital or childhood), this it needs therapy in its treatment. This research has intention to describe the application of ABA therapy on children with mental retardation, to describe the constraints faced in applying ABA therapy, and to describe the efTort taken by Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri to overcome the constrains in the application of ABA therapy on the independence of children with mental retardation. This research uses qualitative descriptive method, because it describes a condition or phenomenon in the field, which collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The research samples has amount of 3 subjects. The collected data is analyzed using descriptive analysis technique that attempts to explain the research result as the way it is according to the collected data and then draws a conclusion by comparing the situation in the field with book Standard referring to the existing theory. The research result .shows that the application of ABA method in Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri is the main method, which do not free from another complement method. The constraints of ABA therapy application in the cohesive therapy center of Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri lay on the short therapy intensity, children is less able to understand the given instruction/material, slow in responding the instruction, children’s rejection on the material, the poor self-care a’oility so that children are always depended on other, and the lack of parents’ support. The efforts taken by management and therapist parties to overcome those constraints above by giving the material gradually, desensitizes on the children who feel uncomforted with the therapy, and presenting the materials creatively (immonotonous), repeating the instruction as the children do not understand the given materials, and looking for the causal factor of why children rejecting the material in order to make the therapist takes the right actions. For the poor self-care ability children, therapist will be more intense in giving practical therapy or exercise program, suggesting the parents to repeat the material given by therapist as children at home. For parents that really do not care on their children developments, hence the management party of Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri cohesive therapy center will tell the problems faced by their children and giving the solution on the problems.
