HUBUNGAN OBESITAS DENGAN RISIKO OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA (OSA) PADA ANAK SD HARAPAN MULIA PALEMBANG
Background: Obesity is a situation in which excess body fat has accumulated. Obesity is a predisposition and is potential to cause OSA. OSA incident in obese patients is 12-30 times higher than other populations. OSA prevalence in obese children is 13-36% which depends on the criteria used. This study was aimed to find out the association between obesity and OSA risk of elementary school students. Method of the study: This study used observational analysis method with crosssectional design. This study was conducted at Harapan Mulia elementary school Palembang from October-December 2013. There were 520 subjects in this study. First, anthropometric measurement was used to select the population who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Then, the BMI of the subjects was calculated and was classified into CDC diagram based on the ages of the subjects. Finally, consecutive sampling technique was used to select 65 subjects from obese and non-obese subjects. Questionnaire was given to the parents of these 65 subjects and chi square test was used to analyze the data. Result of the study: There were 20 out of 65 subjects (30.8%) of Harapan Mulia elementary school Palembang students who suffered from obesity. There were 12 obese subjects (18.5%) who had OSA risk and 9 non-obese subjects (13.8%) who had OSA risk. The chi square analysis showed that the chi square value (X2) 10.130, with p = 0.001 which was smaller than a (0.005). It means that there significant association between children’s obesity and their OSA risk (OR 6.000). Conclusion: Obese children had 6 times higher OSA risk factor than the obese ones.
