EFEK ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK DAUN SIRIH (Piper betle L.) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Neisseria gonorrhoeae SECARA in vitro
Background: This research was conducted to know whether betle leaf (Piper belle L.) extract has antibacterial activity against Neisseria gonorrhoeae causing Gonore, to asses The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), and to asses its equivalent rate with ciprojloxacin. Methods: This research was designed as experimental laboratory. Betle leaf extract was obtained by multilevel maceration method using three solvents, consist of n-hexane, ethylacetat, and methanol. Then, extract was tested its antibacterial activity against Neisseria gonorrhoeae using Kirby-Bauer Disc Method then the result was statistically analyzed by SPSS version I8. Results: Belle leaf extract from ethylacetat and methanol can inhibit the growth of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The most effective solvent in extracting antibacterial compounds from belie leaf was ethylacetat with minimum inhibitory concentration 0,02 grim/ resulting inhibitory zone diameter 1,63 ± 0,12 mm. 0,02 grim/ concentration of betle leaf extract from ethylacetat has equivalent rate with 0,083 x 1(J7 gr/ml ciprojloxacin to result the same inhibitory zone diameter. Hence, the result proves that ciprofolxacin was more effective than belle leaf extract in inhibiting the growth of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Conclusion: Belle leaf {Piper betle L.) extract from ethylacetat and methanol has antibacterial activity which can inihibit the growth of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
