Background: Erectile dysfunction is one of sexuality function problem which its reporting rateis high. lt does not directly affect life expectancy but can have a strong negative effect on the well being and quality of his life, as it often leads to various psychiatric and social problems. One of factors that influence the prevalence of erectile dysfunction is hypertension. This study was conducted to calculate the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in patients with hypertension at Hypertensive Polyclinic of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang and to know the frequency of erectile dysfunction based on age, body mass index, smoking habits, severity of hypertension, hypertension duration, and antihypertension medication of these subjects. Methods: This descriptive survey study used consecutive sampling technique to select 95 respondents who visited the outpatient clinic of hypertensive Mohammaad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang at October-December 2011. Data penelitian didapatkan melalui wawancara, antropometry measurement, questionnaire of International Index of Erectile Function, and medical record. Result: Prevalence of erectile dysfunction in hypertensive patients at hypertensive clinic of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang Was 62,1% with classification 39% mild, 44.1% mid-moderate, 13.6% moderate and 3.4% severe. Proportion of erectile dysfunction was highest in the age group 51-60 years (66.7%), BMI obesity (77.3%), no smoking habit (73.7%), hypertension degree 2 (63.2%), patients with hypertension over 6 years (74.1%) , 3 combination antihypertensive drug users (74.1%), and user of alpha blockers group (77.8%). Conclusion: Erectile dysfunction is a very common condition in hypertensive men which increased as age, severity of hypertension, hypertension duration, and use of antihypertensive drug combinations and therefore patients should be sought for erectile dysfunction by the clinicians.
