Edwarsiellosis disease caused by infection with the bacteria Edwarsiella tarda and Edwarsiella ictaluri can cause mass mortality in cultivated freshwater fish. Vaccination in aquaculture significant contributin to increasing fisheries production significantly, especially in preventing disease. The purpose of this study will examine the efficacy of the whole cell vaccine against Edwarsiellosis disease in catfish. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) will be used as experimental design with 3 treatments, 3 replications and duplicates for testing blood parameters. The test treatment consisted of P0 : Control (-), that is fish were not vaccinated and not infected with Edwarsiella tarda; P1 : Control (+), that is fish were not vaccinated but infected with Edwarsiella tarda; P2 fish were vaccinated and infected with Edwarsiella tarda. The parameters observed were blood images in the form of calculation of total leukocytes, antibody titers and vaccine efficacy in the form of relative survival rates and prevalence. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance with a confidence level of 95%. The treatment had a significant effect, then proceed with the LSD further test (Small Significant Difference). The results showed that giving whole cell vaccine to catfish wirh a dose of 0.1 ml fish (fish lenght 10-12 cm) against Edwarsiellosis disease in catfish was able to produce an RPS (Relative Percent Survival) value of 63.64%. The antibody titer produced in the blood plasma of vaccinated catfish was 589 µg ml-1 blood plasma, the survival rate was 82.22%, the prevalence value was 22.27% and total leukocytes was 11,77 ± 0,25 (104 sel mm-3). The conclusion of this study is that the administration of a whole cell vaccine from the bacterium Edwarsiella tarda is effective for preventing Edwarsiellosis in catfish.
