KARAKTERISASI KERTAS DARI ECENG GONDOK ( Eichornia crassipes) DAN PURUN TIKUS ( Eleocharis dulcis)
This study aims to determine the characteristics of the paper produced from a combination of water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes) and water chestnut (Eleocharis dulcis) plants and to determine the feasibility of the paper produced as food wrapping paper. This research method uses laboratory experimental methods and the data obtained are analyzed using the ANOVA test (Randomized Block Design). Paper making was carried out with 4 different formulations tested based on the ratio of water hyacinth and water chestnut (75%:25%, 50%:50%, 25%:75%, 0%:100%). The results showed that the ratio of water chestnut in paper making had a significant effect on grammage, thickness, tensile strength, water absorption and roughness. Based on the test results, the range of grammage values is 143.54-297.11 g/m2, thickness 0.36-0.84 mm, tensile resistance 1.68-2.13 kN/m, tear resistance 423.6-536.6 mN, water absorption 232.4-712.9 g/m2, top roughness 2411-4173 mL/minute, bottom roughness 3788-5172 mL/minute. The ratio of water chestnut to water hyacinth which produces paper with characteristics close to the standard of plastic laminated wrapping paper is A3 treatment with a ratio of 0% water hyacinth : 100% water chestnut. Based on SNI 6519:2016 regarding plastic laminated wrapping paper, water hyacinth paper combination of water chestnut has met the standard of tensile strenght value but has not been able to meet the standard of grammage, water absorption and roughness values. Based on SNI 14-6519-2001 concerning basic paper for wrapping plastic laminated, the water hyacinth paper combination of water chestnut has met the standard of tear strenght value but has not been able to meet the standard of thickness.
