Background : Benign soft tissue tumors can occur on most of the human body, some of which are lipoma, hemangioma and fibroma. Most of these benign tumors originate from the superficial sof tissue layers (dermal and subcutan). The etiology of benign soft tissue tumors are mostly unknown but there has been correlations founded between tumor forming and genetics, envionment, viral infetcion and the deficiency of the immune system. Objectives : To identify the prevalence of benign soft tissue tumors in Pathology Department RSUP Dr. Muhammad Husein Palembang from January lslto December 3 lst 2011. Method : This research is a descriptive observational study. Data were obtained through medical records from Pathology Department RSUP Dr. Muhammad Husein Palembang. Results : Data shovved a total of 335 benign soft tissue tumor patients. Further analysis showed the distribution of the tumors based on age, sex. and tumor type. Condusion : Benign soft tissue tumors mostly occured on patients of age range 40-49 years old (125 patients). Most of the patients are female (117 patients) and the most common tumor type is lipoma (207 patients).
