INSIDEN DAN INDIKASI TONSILEKTOMI DI RAWAT INAP DEPARTEMEN KTHT-KL RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 1 JANUARI-31 DESEMBER 2010
Background: Tonsillectomy is removal of tonsils surgery. In the field of ENT tonsillectomy is the most common surgery. Indications for tonsillectomy based on the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-NHS) consists of absolute and relative indications. Objective: To know incidence atid the most common indication for tonsillectomy in hospitalized patients at Department of Ears Nose Throat Head Neck Surgery (ENT-HNS) Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang General Hospital in the period January lst until December 31th, 2010. Method: This study is an observational descriptive study used a secondary data were retrieved from the the medical record at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang in the period period January lst until December 31th, 2010. Analyzed using SPSS serial 18 in the from of sex, age, tonsil size, diagnosis, and indications for tonsillectomy. Result: The sample was 97 patients. The incidence of tonsillectomy in the period 1 January to 31 Desember 2010 was 17,8%. Gender distribution: male 56 patients (57,7%) and female 41 patients (42,3%). Age distribution: children 44 patients (45,4%>) and adults 53 patients (54,6%). Tonsil size distribution: 77: 'right tonsil 3(3,1%) and left tonsil 3(3,1%), T2: right tonsil 25(25,8%) and left tonsil 24(24,7%), 73: right tonsil 64(66%) and left tonsil 61(62,9%), T4: right tonsil' 5(5,2%) and left tonsil 9(9,3%). Diagnosis distribution: chronic tonsillitis 93(95.9%), peritonsillar abscess 1(1%), peritonsillar infiltrate 1(1%), tonsil tumor 1(1%), and tonsil cancer 1(1%). Indications for tonsillectomy distribution: tonsil hypertrophy causing upper airway obstruction 30 peadiatric patients (68,2%) dan 27 adult patients (52,9%), peritonsillar abscess 1 adult patient (1,9%), tonsil biopsy for pathology emmnmtion 2 adult patients (3,8%), patients with three or more tonsil infections per year 44 paediatric patients (100%>) dan 49 adult patients (92,5%), and halitosis 4 paediatric patients (9,1%) dan 9 adult patients (17%)). Conclusions: The incidence of tonsillectomy in the period January lst until December 31th, 2010 was 17.8%. The most common indication for tonsillectomy is patients with three or more tonsil infections per year (chronic tonsillitis).
