PREVALENSI KATARAK SENILIS DAN FAKTOR RISIKO USIA, PEKERJAAN, DAN MEROKOK DI KECAMATAN SAKO, PALEMBANG
Background: Cataract is the main cause of blindness in Indonesia. Most cases of cataract are related to aging process and very common in elderly. Senile cataract or age-related cataract is the most common type of cataract. There are several risk factors for senile cataract, such as age, occupation and smoking. The objective of this study was to find out prevalence of senile cataract and whether age, occupation, and smoking were risk factors of senile cataract at Kecamatan Sako, Palembang. Methods: This study was descriptive-analytic observational study with cross sectional approach design and was held at Kecamatan Sako, Palembang from October 2012 to January 2013. The sample selection was done by proportionate multistage random sampling. The total sample for the study was 112 participants. Result: Prevalence of senile cataract at Kecamatan Sako, Palembang was 23,2%. Data analysis with Fisher test showed there was significant correlation between age and incident of senile cataract (p=0,000; OR 8,276; 95% Cl 2,764-24,781). While, occupation (/9=0,431; OR 1,739; 95% Cl 0,403-7,499) with fisher test and smoking (/9=0,161; OR 1,935; 95% Cl 0,763-4,907) with chi-square test showed there was no significant correlation with incident of senile cataract. Conclusion: There was significant correlation between age and incident of senile cataract. Occupation and smoking did not have a significant correlation with incidence of senile cataract.
