PENGARUH KONSUMSI SARAPAN TERHADAP NILAI INDEKS PRESTASI KUMULATIF MAHASISWA FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA ANGKATAN 2009 KELAS NON-REGULER
Background : Breakfast i s the first meal a person consumes. The human body will need glucose after undergoing eight to twelve hours without any food intake. Glucose is very important for the brain because it is the brain’s main energy source. Studies has shown the importance of breakfast for cognitive function and academic performance. Objectives : To identify the effect of breakfast consumption on GPA (grade point average) of Universitas Sriwijaya Medical School class of 2009 Non-Regular students. Method : This research is an analytical study using cross-sectional design. Data are obtained through questionnaire distribution and Universitas Sriwijaya Medical School academic archives. 77 respondents were obtained. Data were analyzed using t-test statistical test. Results : Data showed that 38 out of 77 students consumes breakfast regularly. Result of the t-test analysis showed a significant difference of GPA between students who consumes breakfast and students who does not consume breakfast. Students who consumes breakfast have higher GPA (significance = 0.014). Conclusion : Breakfast consumption has an effect on the students’ GPA. Students who consumes breakfast have higher GPA.
