Depot-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) is an injected contraceptive administered to patients every three months and weight gain is one of the most frequently cited reasons for not using and for discontinuing this injected contraceptives. This study addresses to examine the significance of changes in body mass of DMPA users. A sample of 97 women were obtained from 246 new DMPA users from January 2008 - December 2008 in Polindes Kenanga, Talang Kelapa District, County of Banyuasin. Data were collected through visit log book. This descriptive time series-cross sectional study found 60 out of 97 women (61.9%) who use DMPA gain weight. The program paired t-test of statistical package SPSS ver. 16 was used to analyze the data with a = 0.05, where p-value showed 0.000 which means null hypothesis was rejected. Based on this feasibility study, weight gain in women using DMPA is statistically significant.
