KARAKTERISTIK PASIEN NEUROPATI OPTIK TOKSIK METHANOL DI POLIKLINIK MATA RUMAH SAKIT MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2009 - 2013
Background: Optic neuropathy due to methanol intoxication is still a common problem in many developing countries. Easy to obtain and easy to infiltrate the body is the cause of many of methanol intoxication. Eventhough the methanol intoxication can produce dangerous toxins that can even lead to blindnes, there is still no accurate data that assesses the characteristics of toxic optic neuropathy methanol. Methods: This study is a descriptive observational study using secondary data registered in Mohammad Hoesin 's Hospital. Data is then presented in the form of table and diagram with its description. Results: : From the 67 samples, 45 samples (67.2%) in the group aged 18-40 years, 64 samples (95.5%) were male, 10 samples (14.9 %) have jobs that are not related to methanol, 11 samples (16.4%) senior high school graduate, 67 samples (100%) enter through the mouth, 15 samples (22.4%) drink mixed with soda, 39 samples (58.2%) attacked on both eyes, 27 samples (40.3%) experienced a decrease in visual acuity, 40 samples (59.7%) admitted to hospital over 1 day, 31 samples (46.3%) fell far Vision, 12 samples (17.9%)) reversible case, and 13 samples also complained of loss of consciousness. Conclusion: Methanol induced optic neuropathy are more common at people with 18-40 age group, men, work unrelated to methanol, senior high school-graduate, enter through the mouth with a mixture of soda, causing defect for both eyes, decreasing Vision severely and brought to hospital later with a really low Vision that reversible, also complaining loss of consciousness.
