Backgrounds :Inguinal Hernia is the most common. Based on data operating rate in France is 17,2% and in United States is 24,1%, from 75% cases all of hernia, distribution in male (78,9%) is more high than female (21,1%), range of age is 51-60 tahun. This condition is caused by some factor, is that age, sex, and history of enhancement of intraabdomen pressure.. inguinal hernia is consist of two type, lateral inguinal hernia and medial inguinal hernia. A similar symptom in a both of them, make a some difficulty to diagnose and treatment in this cases. Method: a survey deskriptif study with a design cross sectional study. Population in Digestive Sub-Deparlment of surgery at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Sampel in this study is consist of 144 patient inguinal hernia who diagnose d and hospitalized at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang on period 1 Juni 2010 until 30 Juli 2012. Result: based on this study, 134 (93,1%) inguinal hernia patient is a male and female is only 10 (6,9%) patient, range of age is the most in 50-60 years old (31,3%), inguina hernia with chronic cough (21,5%), and inguinal hernia patient without a history of enhancement inraabdominal pressure (27,8%), the most common inguinal hernia is lateral inguinal hernia with total patient is 133 (92,4%) while medial inguinal hernia is only occur in 11 patient (7,6%). Conclusion and Result : Based on this study, age, sex, and enhancement of intraabdominal pressure is involved in inguinal hernia development with the most cases is lateral inguinal hernia
