KARAKTERISTIK EDIBLE FILM KOMPOSIT DARI KULIT TIMUN SURI DAN PATI GANYONG
The objective of this research was to use cucumber peel and ganyong starch as material of edible film composite. This research was conducted at Agricultural Product Chemistry Laboratory and Microbiological Laboratory, Agricultural Technology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. It was conducted ffom April to September 2008. The research was designed as a Factorial Randomized Block Design which consisted of two factors and three replications for each treatment. The first treatment was the concentrations of cucumber peel (60%, 80%, 100%), and the second treatment was the concentrations of ganyong starch (3%, 5%, 7%). The observed parameters were water content, thickness, pressure strength, elongation percentage, water vapor transmition rate, and water activity. The results showed that the addition of different cucumber peel concentrations had significant effect on the elongation percentage. Concentrations of ganyong starch had significant effect on the water content, thickness, pressure strength and elongation percentage. The elongation percentage of edible film increased by the increasing of cucumber peel concentrations. The thickness, pressure strength and elongation percentage of edible film increased by the increasing of ganyong starch concentrations. The best treatment was 80% cucumber peel concentration and 7% ganyong starch concentration because it had low value of water content, water vapor transmission, water activity and high values of thickness, pressing strength, elongation percentage.
