KARAKTERISTIK BRIKET KOMPOSIT LIMBAH PERTANIAN TANPA KARBONISASI DENGAN PENAMBAHAN ALANG-ALANG SEBAGAI STARTER PENYALAAN
The objective of this research was to find out the characteristics of a composite briquette without carbonized of agricultural waste with the addition of bladygrass as an ignition starter. This research was conducted in Biosystem Laboratory, Laboratory of Agricultural Chemistry, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya, and Laboratory of Mining and Energy South Sumatera. The research started in December 2008 and completed in June 2009. The research used factorial completely randomized design with two treatments as factors (F and A). Factor A was bladygrass percentages added to the material of briquette (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%), and F was the formulation of agricultural waste consisting of husk and wood coir compositions (25%: 75%; 50%: 50%; and 75%: 25%). Clay as much as 20% was used as an adhesive for briquette. The parameters were initial ignition time of briquette, combustion time of briquette, density, ash content, water content, and calorific value. The results showed that the addition of bladygrass (factor A) and composition formulation of husk : wood coir in formulation of composite briquette of agricultural waste (Factor F) and interaction between factor A and factor F had significant effect on all parameters. The best treatment was achieved by the addition of 30% bladygrass and formulation of 25% hush and 75% wood coir, which resulted in ignition time as long as 2.08 minutes, 19.76% ash content and 3113 kkal/kg calorific value.
