SIFAT FISIK DAN MEKANIS BIO MEDIA TANAM DENGAN KOMPOSISI ARANG AKTIF BAMBU BERBASIS KOMPOS
The objective of this research was to determine physical and mechanical characteristics of planting biomedia made from compost-based bamboo active charcoal. This research was conducted at Workshop of Center for Business and Science Application (PBAST) in Palembang and Soil Mechanic Laboratory of Engineering Faculty, Sriwijaya Unlversity. This research was conducted from January to July 2013. This research used descriptive method by comparing three treatments of bamboo active charcoal content which consisted of A treatment (750 g soil + 750 g compost + 250 g bamboo active charcoal + 250 g tapioca glue + 100 ml rubber latex), B treatment (750 g soil + 750 g compost + 500 g bamboo active charcoal +250 g tapioca glue + 100 ml rubber latex) and C treatment (750 g soil + 750 g compost + 750 g bamboo active charcoal +250 g tapioca glue + 100 ml rubber latex). The observed parameters were density, shear strength and free compression strength of planting biomedia. Physical and mechanical testings on planting biomedia showed that the best results was found on A treatment having density values in range of 1.29 g.cm'3 to 1.36 g.cm'3, shear strength values in range of 5.22 kg.cm'2 to 8.03 kg.cm"2 as well as free compression strength values in range 33.47 kg.cm to 38.95 kg.cm, respectively.
