PENGGUNAAN SERAT BATANG ROSELLA (Hibiscus sabdariffa) SEBAGAI BAHAN KOMPOSIT
This research was conducted at Metalurgy Laboratory of Machinery Enginering Department, Polytechnic University and Laboratory of Agricultural, Sriwijaya University. It was carried out from martch 2009 until January 2010. The research objective was to observe and study the physical characteristies of composite materials from rosella stems fiber. The method used in this study was experimental method followed by tabulation. The fiber was arranged in the paranet pattern with three levels of distance, namely 1 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm. The procedure consisted of mixing 200 mL polyester resin, 2 mm cobalt blue, 2 mL catalyst and 500 gram talk. The mixture was produced in matrix size of length 22 cm, width 14 cm and height 0.5 cm. The observed parameters were specimen draw tension, impact energy and bending tension. The result showed that the highest average value of draw tension (8.43 MPa) was in the specimen of 3 mm spacing, the highest average value of impact energy (2.61 Joule) was in the 1 mm spacing and the highest average value of bending tension (47.04 kgf7mm2) was in specimen with 1 mm spacing. experiment concluded that the higher density of specimens resulted in higher strength of the specimen.
