ANALISIS NILAI TAMBAH PADA PROSES PENANGANAN PASCAPANEN KUBIS DAN SAWI DARI KOTA PAGAR ALAM KE PASAR INDUK JAKA BARING PALEMBANG
The research objective was to study minimum process distribution of cabbage and mustard greens that are marketed to Jaka Baring Center Market of Palembang, to determine the proper postharvest handling process of vegetables in producing maximum benefit for farmers, and to determine the added value for each vegetables postharvest handling at Pagar Alam. This study was conducted at Kerinjing Village, Dempo Utara Subdistrict, Pagar Alam in December 2007. The method used for collecting farmer samples was purposive sampling based on vegetables farmers involvement as Agribusiness Subterminal Member and Non-Member. There were 30 sample farmers that consisted of 8 farmers from Agribusiness Subterminal Member and 22 farmers from Agribusiness Subterminal Non-Member. Sampling from marketing institutions were consisted of 3 collecting traders of Pagar Alam, 3 whole salers at Palembang City, 5 distributions agents, and 10 sale retailers at Jaka Baring Market of Palembang. The result showed that there was a decrease in quality and quantity of vegetables during postharvest handling process from farmers up to retailers at Jaka Baring Market of Palembang due to physical damage from ffiction amongst vegetables during distribution from Pagar Alam to Palembang. Vegetables postharvest handling that could produced benefit for farmers by using wrapping and packaging of cabbage and mustad greens before they marketed to Jaka Baring Market of Palembang. Wrapping process was done to maintain the quality and hygiene of vegetables, whereas packaging process was carried out to minimize physical damage risk of vegetables during transportation from Pagar Alam to Palembang. There were three marketing channel of vegetables from Pagar Alam to Palembang. The first marketing channel was involved farmers, collecting traders, wholesaler, distributors, and retailers. The second channel was consisted of farmers, collecting traders, wholesalers, and retailers. The last one was consisted of farmers, collecting traders, wholesalers, and consumers. The second channel was the most effective and mostly used of marketing channel. The added values received from wrapping and packaging operations of cabbage and mustard greens vegetables were 354.28 rupiahs per kg and 407.14 rupiahs per kg, respectively. It showed that for each 11,519.23 kg of cabbage production, farmers had received added of benefit that could increase their income. It was also true for the case of mustard greens production
