STRATEGI EKONOMI-POLITIK JEPANG TERHADAP KEBANGKITAN CHINA DI KAWASAN ASIA TENGGARA
Southeast Asia has always been a very important region for Japan's foreign economic policy strategy. The dominance of the Japanese economy is marked by the 'flying geese' development model where Japan occupies a leading position as the 'lead goose' who leads the Southeast Asian economy through the provision of capital, transfer of technological and managerial knowledge. Apart from being a production base, Southeast Asia is also a provider of raw materials, labor, and other resources for the industrial activities of Japanese companies. However, the presence of new actors, including China and its economic strength in the region, poses a challenge for Japan in the context of its political-economic interests in the Southeast Asian region. As a response to this phenomenon, the author analyzes the Japanese strategy using the neomercantilist view as the neomercantilists see the struggle of political economy in competition and will focus on revitalizing the domestic economy which will have implications for wider economic interests.
