Defense Cooperation between Indonesia and Japan began in 2015 through a Memorandum of Understanding which aims to improve bilateral cooperative relations based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and full respect for the sovereignty and integrity of each country. Defense Cooperation between Indonesia and Japan began in 2015 through a Memorandum of Understanding which aims to improve bilateral cooperative relations based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and full respect for the sovereignty and integrity of each country. This study aims to determine Indonesia's national interest in defense cooperation with Japan. This study uses the concept of national interest according to Donald E. Nuehterlein. In this study, the author uses a descriptive qualitative method that focuses on literature study. The results showed that the purpose of defense cooperation between Indonesia and Japan was the national interest. This study sees that Indonesia's national interests are more focused on defense and economic interests. However, the interests of the world order and ideology are still contained in the defense cooperation carried out by Indonesia and Japan.
