Palembang City is the area with the highest percentage of cases in South Sumatra Province, evidenced by data from Palembang City Health Office in January 18th, 2021. There were 6,202 confirmed positive cases and 293 people died. The American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report shows that children and adolescents are more at risk for complications related to COVID-19. This study aims to analyze the relationship between adolescent motivation and the behavior of implementing COVID-19 health protocol in Kemuning District, Palembang City. The method used in this study is a quantitative research method with a cross sectional design. The informants in this study are amounted to 71 late teens ranging in age 19 to 24 years. The results in this study found that intrinsic and extrinsic motivation with the implementation of COVID-19 health protocol using Chi-square test (0.000) is smaller than the alpha value (α = 0.05), which means that there is a relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation with the implementation of COVID-19 health protocol. The conclusion of the study shows that the relationship between the motivation of adolescents aged 19-24 years with the application of the COVID-19 health protocol in the Kemuning District of Palembang City is well motivated in implementing the COVID-19 health protocol, but there are still adolescents who have not fully implemented and adhered to the health protocol to be applied in their daily lives during the pandemic. This is because teenagers find it difficult to limit themselves to interacting with the surrounding environment, but on the other hand, teenagers have also realized the importance of using masks, maintaining distance and washing hands with soap as an effort to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. Keywords: COVID-19, Health Protocol, Intrinsic Motivation, Extrinsic Motivation. Literature : 30 (1990-2020)
