Pempek industry in its production process involves high temperatures, causing a hot working climate. Workers who work in hot work environments can be at risk for health problems due to heat exposure such as heat strain. Heat strain is the body's physiological response when it receives heat exposure which is characterized by an increase in body temperature and pulse as the body's efforts to release heat. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between hot working environment and the risk of suffering from heat strain among the employees at The Central of Pempek Industry Kampung Pempek 26 Ilir Palembang. This study used a cross sectional design and the sampling method was used total sampling with a total sample 0f 60 people from 7 pempek industry. Data was collected by interview and direct measurement and quetionnaire, heat stress apparatus questemp 36, digital thermometer, bathroomscale, microtoise and stopwatch were used as data collection tools. The result showed that there was a correlation between hot working environment and the risk of suffering from heat strain (p-value = 0,001). Other factors that have a correlation with risk of heat strain are age (p-value = 0,000), drinking water consumption (p-value = 0,000) dan years of service (p-value = 0,001). While there was no correlation of obesity (p-value = 0,063). In multivariate analysis, it was found significant correlation between hot working environment and the risk of suffering from heat strain after being controlled by confounding variables (p-value = 0,004 ; PR = 14,358 ; 95%CI = 2,351 – 87,683). Then it can be concluded that the number of workers who has got heat strain symptoms occur along with the high work climate measurement results in pempek industry.
