UJI EFEKTIFITAS ISOLAT Bacillus thuringiensis TERHADAP LARVA Oryctes rhinoceros DI RUMAH BAYANG
Oryctes rhinoceros (Coleoptera:Scarabaeidae) also called as rhino beetle is one main pests of oil palm. Rhino beetle attacking oil palm by feeding on young shots until growing point of the plant. The objectives of the research was to derive Bacillus thuringiensis isolates could effectively cause significant mortality to O. rhinoceros in shade house. The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 6 treatments and five replications, and use water as control. Treatment was given to O. rhinoceros larvae in the shade house with 7 treatments namely P1(C14), P2(C15), P3(A15), P4(OJ), P5(BK), P6(LK) and P7(Control). Spore densities produced by each isolate were not significantly different each other. O. rhinoceros larvae infected by B. thuringiensis showed symptoms in the form of physical changes from white into brownish to black, less appetite, and become moveless. The dead larvae showed softened bodies, decayed and produce sting smell. Factors affecting larval mortality was not only B. thuringiensis bio-insecticide but also environmental factor such as temperature and humidity. The highest mortality was found in treatment 2 isolate C15 amounted to s 100% but it was not significantly different from those produced by other isolates. The infection symptoms and larval death occurred 24 hours after inoculation in all treatments.
