In Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency, most of the people make a living as big red chili farmers. Chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is a vegetable commodity that gets a lot of attention because big red chili has a fairly high economic value. The practice of cultivating red chili plants, still often faces problems with chili pest attacks that cause damage in the vegetative and generative periods which can reduce crop yields. This study aims to introduce the plant refugia Z. elegans. as a control of the phytophagous insect population in chili farmers' plantations. The research was carried out in a farmer's garden located in Timbangan, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency from September to November 2021. This research method used an observation method on 2 different lands to see a comparison between chili plants planted with zinnia flowers and chili plants that were not planted. zinnia flowers. Phytophage insects found in chili fields without Zinnia flowers were 4 times more than in chili fields planted with Zinnia flowers. There were 203 phytophagous insects found in chili without Zinnia flowers and 44 plants planted with Zinnia flowers. The data showed that planting Z. elegans flowers was able to suppress the presence of phytophagous insects that came to chili plantations as much as 78%. The index value of the diversity and evenness of phytophagous insect species in red chili plantations planted with Z. elegans flowers was higher than in red chili plants without Z. elegans flowers. Meanwhile, the dominance index value of phytophagous insect species in red chili plantations that were not planted with Z. elegans flowers was higher than in red chili plants planted with Z. elegans flowers.
