Banana bunchy top virus (bbtv) known as banana dwarf disease is a disease caused by a vector, namely Pentalonia nigronervosa (Hemiptera: Aphididae). The purpose of this study was to determine the biology of Pentalonia nigronervosa in turmeric plants and the efficiency of transmission of banana dwarf virus (BBTV) through P. nigronervosa vectors when the infective vector was passed to turmeric plants as an alternative host for the vector. The research was conducted in the Insectarium and backyard of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The time of the study was carried out from June to December 2021. This study used a randomized block design with 4 treatments and 5 replications where each treatment unit consisted of 3 plants. Treatment 1 was a control in which banana plants were inoculated by BBTV with P. nigronervosa without passing plants, treatment 2 in which the infective P. nigronervosa vector was passed to turmeric plants for 24 hours, treatment 3 where infective P. nigronervosa ticks were passed on turmeric plants for 48 hours, treatment 4 where the infective P. nigronervosa tick was passed on the turmeric plant for 72 hours. The results showed that P. nigronervosa could grow and develop on turmeric plants and produced tillers ranging from 55 to 61 tails with an average of 58 tails per imago. The results of BBTV transmission on banana plants through vectors passed on turmeric plants showed that there was no significant difference between transmission by P. nigronervosa directly and that passed on turmeric plants. All of them produce symptoms of a BBTV attack.
