The high number of traffic accidents is one of the major problems in the field of public health. Based on traffic accident data from the Palembang Polrestabes in 2020, it still shows a high number of traffic accidents in the Palembang city area. This study aims to analyze the incidence of traffic accidents based on the characteristics of accidents in the Palembang City area in 2020. The secondary data in this study used a quantitative method with a cross sectional approach and the sample of this study amounted to 414 accident victims. The sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The analysis of this study used univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, and analysis using the AEK (Accident Equivalent Rate) method. The results of the analysis show that there are more drivers who experience traffic accidents in the age group with a range of 32.70–35.55 years, male (82.6%), working status (72,7%), not having a certificate Driving Permit (70,8%), location on a two-way lane (94.7%), time of incident with a range of 12.00-15.00 WIB (23,7%), type of two-wheeled vehicle (94,0%), and type of collision out of control or lost control (35.3%). There is a relationship between the location of the incident (P-value = 0.001), and the type of collision (P-value = 0,003) with the incidence of traffic accidents. As for the variables of age (P-value = 0,547), Gender (P-value = 0,967), employment status (P-value = 0.607), SIM ownership (P-value = 0,052), time of occurrence (P-value = 0,301), type of vehicle (P-value = 1,000 ) does not have a significant relationship with the incidence of traffic accidents in the city of Palembang. The Blackspot location with the highest AEK value is Jalan Ki Marogan.
