The 2020 Simultaneous Regional Election was held on December 9th, 2020 in 270 regions of Indonesia, which includes 9 provinces, 224 regencies, and 37 cities spreading all over Indonesia. The sudden Covid-19 pandemic also changed the whole mechanism of the election itself which are stated in the General Election Commission Regulation (PKPU) No. 6 Year 2020. With the new adjustment that have been made, the Ogan Ilir Regency need to implement the right communication strategy so the election process can run well without reducing the society’s enthusiasm for using their voting rights. This research aims to know about the communication strategy used by the General Election Commission (KPU) of Ogan Ilir Regency in holding the 2020 Simultaneous Regional Election during the Covid-19 pandemic; and also to perceive the supporting factors and the inhibiting factors in holding the 2020 Simultaneous Regional Election in OganIlir Regency during the Covid-19 pandemic era. This research use Anwar Arifin’s (1984) communication strategy theory, which consists of five steps: audience recognition, determining the message, deciding the method, choosing the media, and the role of communicator. The methods used in this research include depth interview, observation, and documentation. The result shown that the General Election Commission (KPU) of Ogan Ilir Regency have done all the five steps in Arifin’s communication strategy theory in holding the 2020 Simultaneous Regional Election;and then the supporting factor in the election is the use of technology (KPU’s official media online) which increase the efficiency of the election information distribution in terms of time, funds, force, and the completeness of the information; while the inhibiting factors are the online connection instability, the limited election funds allocation, andthe existence of apathetic society.
