PENGARUH VARIASI SUHU DAN WAKTU PROSES CARBURIZING PADA BAJA AISI 4140 TERHADAP UJI KEKERASAN (Vickers)
Carburizing is a heat treatment process that aims to add hardness to the steel surface by utilizing carbon as a hardening element. In this study, the carbon used was tembesu wood charcoal. The specimen used is AISI 4140 steel. This study aims to see the effect of variations in temperature and time of the carburizing process. The temperatures used were 850oC and 950oC with holding times of 45 minutes, 75 minutes, and 105 minutes. After carburizing, the specimen is then tested for hardness using a Vickers hardness testing machine. From these tests, the hardness value for pure specimens is 218,117 kgf/mm². The highest hardness value for carburizing specimens at a temperature of 850oC is 286,567 kgf/mm² with a holding time of 105 minutes, and at a temperature of 950oC is 311.432 kgf/mm² with a holding time of 105 minutes. The higher the temperature and the longer holding time given, the more it will affect the hardness level of the spesimen.
