PENERAPAN KANGOROO MOTHER CARE DALAM ASUHAN KEPERAWATAN PADA NEONATUS DENGAN BBLR UNTUK MENINGKATKAN SATURASI OKSIGEN
Background: Low birth weight (LBW) is a baby with a birth weight of less than 2,500 grams regardless of gestational age. LBW usually occurs in infants less than 37 weeks, but babies born at term also have the potential to experience LBW. Babies with low birth weight often experience several problems immediately after birth due to the immature organs. So that it will have some complex impacts in physiological changes of the body. Purpose: The purpose of this scientific paper is to describe the practice of nursing care for LBW infants and to carry out nursing interventions in accordance with evidence-based studies in the Neonatus Selincah Room, 2nd Floor, RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: Case study with qualitative descriptive method. Providing nursing care based on Indonesian nursing standards (SDKI, SIKI, SLKI). Results: Based on the results of the case study, it was found that three infants who diagnosed with LBW experienced the same nursing problems, such as impaired gas exchange related to ventilation-perfusion imbalance characterized by rapid, shallow, and irregular breathing and oxygen saturation which tended to be less than 88-92 %. The intervention given in this case study is Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) to increase oxygen saturation. The application of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) for three days with a duration of 60 minutes had an effect on all patients in increasing the oxygen saturation of LBW infants. Conclusion: Based on evidence based, nursing actions that can be performed on patients with gas exchange disorders are providing respiratory monitoring and acid-base management with a combination of the application of the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) method as an additional intervention in providing nursing care. Thus, the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) method is effective in increasing oxygen saturation in LBW infants. Keywords: Low Birth Weight Babies, Gas Exchange Disorders, Oxygen Saturation, Kangaroo Mother Care.
