This study aims to describe the reconstruction of the character and personality of the main character in the novel Pulang and its implications in learning Indonesian literature in high school. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive method with intertext theory. The results of this thesis are the reconstruction of the character and personality of the main character, namely the character Dimas Suryo using a literary psychology approach with Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis which examines the character and personality of the character using aspects of the id, ego, and superego. The character of Dimas in the novel Pulang is a form of reconstruction of two knight figures in the Mahabharata story, namely the characters of Bima and Ekalaya. There are seven Dimas characters presented as a reconstruction of Bima's character and seven Dimas characters as a reconstruction of Ekalaya's character. Bima's figures include: strong, brave, obedient, determined and ambitious, critical, polite, and wise. Meanwhile, Ekalaya's character is honest, brave, obedient, determined, loyal, patient, and polite. Furthermore, based on the 14 characters reconstructed in the Bima figure, there are 18 strong character quotes, 15 brave quotes, 11 submissive quotes, 14 strong determination and ambitious quotes, 15 critical quotes, 9 polite quotes, 6 wise quotes, 8 honest quotes, 7 loyal quotes, and 9 patient quotes. The quotations are obtained from the novels Pulang, Mahabharata, and Mahabharata Book 6. Then based on these ten characters, the author categorizes and analyzes the personality type of Dimas based on the character and personality built by Dimas' id, ego, and superego aspects. Based on the results of the analysis, there are two personality types of Dimas characters found, namely the phlegmatic and korelis personality types. Then this research has implications for learning Indonesian in literary material in class XII. Therefore, this research can be used as a reference for similar further research and can be used by teachers in learning Indonesian in schools, especially in KD. 3.9 class XII high school.
