PENGARUH MEDIA PENDINGIN TERHADAP LAJU KOROSI BAJA KARBON RENDAH PASCA PENGELASAN SMAW
Welding is a metal joining process in which metals become one due to heat with or without pressure. The welding process will cause the metal to increase in temperature. The increase in temperature in the metal will cause the metal to rust or corrode because one of the corrosion factors is temperature. To reduce the temperature of the metal, cooling is carried out. This study aims to determine the effect of cooling media on the corrosion rate of low carbon steel after SMAW (Shided Metal Arc Welding) welding. The research method used is an experimental method with a variety of cooling media in the form of SAE 10 oil, used oil, water, and air to cool low carbon steel that has been SMAW welding. Calculation of the corrosion rate using the Lost Weight method is to calculate the mass of metal lost due to rusting after being tested with hydrochloric acid (HCl). The results showed that the best medium was SAE 10 oil with a corrosion rate of 1.1273 mpy. Meanwhile, steel that is left in the open air experiences a corrosion rate of 1.3348 mpy.
