Isolation of fatty acids ff om the polar fraction of methanol extract of Gynura pseudochina (Lour) D.C leaves had been carried out by maceration using methanol as the solvent and separation by a variety of chromatograpic techniques. Identification has been done of two isolated compounds using IR, !H-NMR and GC-MS spectroscopy. Compound 1 was obtained as a greenish solid (11.7 mg) and identified as a mixture of fatty acid derivatives with the major compound was methyl 14-methyl pentadecanoic. Compound 2 was obtained as a greenish solid (17.6 mg) and identified as a mixture of fatty acid derivatives with the major compound was hexadecanoic acid. The antibacterial activity showed that both of isolated compounds are bacteriostatic antibacterial against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis.
