This research was conducted to describe the condition and situation of the use of public space for pedestrians as a trading place for street vendors in the Sudirman pedestrian area, Palembang City. In this study, the object of research is street vendors who trade in the Sudirman pedestrian area (pedestrian) in Palembang City in their daily life from 08.00 in the morning until the evening at 00.00 WIB. This study aims to examine how the use of public space on the pedestrian path (pedestrian) as a place of trade for street vendors in the Sudirman pedestrian area of Palembang City and the impact caused by the activity of street vendors trading on the pedestrian path. The method used in this research is using a qualitative descriptive method with the main informant is a street vendor, and the supporting informant is the Head of Tourism Cooperation Relations who also serves as Chair of the Sudirman Pedestrian Association, Palembang City, Plt. Lurah 18 Ilir, Lurah 24 Ilir, and pedestrians (pedestrians) Sudirman Palembang City. Data collection techniques by conducting observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation to the main informants and supporting informants. This study provides in-depth information in the form of street vendors using the Sudirman pedestrian path to trade because they are not subject to dues or levies and a place to earn money by trading to meet the needs of daily life, these street vendors do not have a job. other than trading due to relatively old age and low education which makes it difficult to find other jobs. Meanwhile, the impact is that they have violated existing rules regarding the use of sidewalks/pedestrian lanes and caused crowds which resulted in discomfort and insecurity for pedestrians and pedestrian paths became chaotic or irregular.
