UJI KETAHANAN MEMBRANE ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY (MEA) DENGAN KATALIS Pt/C DAN Pt-Ru/C PADA DIRECT ETHANOL FUEL CELL (DEFC)
Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) resistance test study with Pt/C and Pt-Ru/C catalysts on Direct Ethanol Fuel Cell (DEFC) has been carried out. The electrode preparation using Pt/C and Pt-Ru/C catalyst was applied using the Doctor Blade method. The electrodes were characterized using the Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) method to determine the catalytic activity of the electrodes based on the value of the Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) and the Electrochemical Impendance Spectroscopy (EIS) method to determine the value of their electrical conductivity. The Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) is made of two electrodes with an electrolyte membrane. MEA was tested for its performance, resistance with load variations in Direct Ethanol Fuel Cell (DEFC) using ethanol as fuel. Based on the measurement of catalytic activity using the cyclic voltammetry (CV) method, the ECSA value of the Pt/C electrode was 226,071 (cm2/gram) and the Pt-Ru/C electrode was 194,9355 (cm2/gram). Meanwhile, in the test with the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) method the Pt/C electrode conductivity values were obtained namely 1.301 × 10-3 S/cm and Pt-Ru/C which was equal to and 6,042 × 10-3 S/cm. The MEA endurance test at varying loads for 4 hours shows that at a load of 50 mA/cm2 it can withstand an initial stress of 0,524 V to 0,439 V and an energy density of 312,7 joules/cm2. The next test for 24 hours the voltage dropped to 0,36 V.
