This research is entitled "Social and Economic Life of Elderly Newspaper Seller at the Red Light 4-Way Intersection in Flyover Jakabaring, Palembang City". This study is intended to analyze elderly newspaper sellers' socioeconomic life and understand the factors that cause the elderly to work as newspaper sellers at the Red Light 4-way intersection in Flyover Jakabaring, Palembang City. This research implements James S. Coleman's theory of rational choice. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative; the data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The number of informants in this study was seven informants consisting of two main informants and five supporting informants. Research results regarding the socioeconomic life of elderly newspaper sellers at the red light whose status as the household head in fulfilling daily needs in the family is from the lower middle class. The factor causes the elderly to work at the red light at the 4-Way Intersection Flyover Jakabaring in Palembang City, namely because of their economic needs. The family's financial needs depend on the household's head, who plays an essential role in supporting the economy in fulfilling their daily needs. Elderly newspaper sellers are the head of the family. They earn a living to support their family by working as a newspaper seller at a red l ight with an income that is not that much. Besides, there is a physical factor that supports the elderly to work as newspaper sellers at Red Light 4-Way Intersection in Flyover Jakabaring, Palembang City.
