PEMBUATAN KITOSAN-ZnO DAN UJI FOTODEGRADASI TERHADAP METHYLENE BLUE
Activity test of chitosan-ZnO as a photocatalyst in the photodegradation process of methylene blue has been carried out. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of chitosan-ZnO composites in the photodegradation process of methylene blue. Chitosan synthesized from shrimp shell waste obtained 52% of the weight of shrimp shell waste. Chitosan-ZnO was composited with three different ratios, which is 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3. The highest crystal size and the highest intensity of characterization angle showed by XRD data, which obtained in chitosan-ZnO 1:3. SEM characterization results showed the presence of ZnO on the chitosan surface and elemental data on the EDX results. The bandgap value counted using UV-Vis DRS data, where chitosan-ZnO 1:3 bandgap value was 3.2 eV. In FTIR characterization, a hydroxyl group was obtained in Chitosan-ZnO. Based on each characterization results, chitosan-ZnO with a ratio of 1:3 was chosen for photocatalyst application. The results showed that the total decomposition of methylene blue in chitosan-ZnO was from 4.8 mg/L to 3.2 mg/L and ZnO to 4.1 mg/L within 60 minutes.
