STUDI KANDUNGAN RADIONUKLIDA ALAM (Th-232) DALAM SEDIMEN PERAIRAN MUARA SUNGAI MUSI, SUMATERA SELATAN
Wintra Tuti Purba. 08051281722033. Study of Natural Radionuclide Content (Th-232) in Musi River Estuary Sediments, South Sumatera. (Supervisors : Dr. Wike Ayu Eka Putri, S.Pi.,M.Si and Dr. Murdahayu Makmur, S.Si.,M.T) Thorium-232 is a natural radionuclide that is toxic and dangerous. Th-232 has a half-life of about 14 billion years and has been spread in various environmental media such as soil, rock, sediment, air and water, so it is necessary to know its activity and distribution in the aquatic environment. Radionuclide activity in waters will accumulate in sediment and in the body of biota and will reach humans through the food chain process. This study aims to analyze the activity of natural radionuclide (Th-232) in the sediment of the Musi River Estuary, South Sumatera and see the pattern of their distribution. Sediment sampling was carried out in March 2021 in Musi River Estuary, South Sumatera. Measurement of Th-232 activity was carried out using a gamma spectrometer and analyzed using Gennie-2000 Software. The results of the analysis showed that the activity of Th-232 in the sediment of the Musi River Estuary ranged from 64,44 – 80,4 Bq/kg with an average of 72,83 Bq/kg. Th-232 activity in this study is still in the safe category because it is far from the threshold determined by BAPETEN. The distribution pattern of Th-232 activity, it is influenced by the direction and speed of the current, depth and source of Th-232 activity itself.
