STUDI KANDUNGAN RADIONUKLIDA ALAM Ra-226 DALAM SEDIMEN MUARA SUNGAI MUSI, SUMATERA SELATAN
The existence of natural radionuclides has been around since the earth was formed. Human activities along the Musi River, such as the opening of agricultural land and industrial activities, have the potential to produce natural radionuclide 226Ra. Radionuclide 226Ra has the potential to enter the river flow to the estuary, and eventually settle in the sediments. This study aims to know the activity of radionuclide 226Ra in sediments and the factors that influence its activity in the sediments of the Musi River Estuary. This research was conducted in March 2021 and sediment sampling was carried out at six stations. The activity of the radionuclide 226Ra was analyzed using a gamma spectrometer. The results showed that the activity of 226Ra ranged from 33,30 - 50,42 Bq/kg with an average of 40,20 Bq/kg. The activity of radionuclide 226Ra in sediments was affected by resources, radionuclide chemical properties, current velocity, water depth and grain size of the sediment. The result of this study can be used as a baseline radionuclide element in the Musi River Estuary.
