Spodoptera frugiperda is a voracious pest on maize that has recently invaded Indonesia. All phases of corn growth can be attacked by S. frugiperda, especially at the growing point of the corn plant which can cause damage up to 100% or die. The aim of the study was to determine the feeding preferences of S. frugiperda larvae on different host plants and to determine egg laying by S. frugiperda imago on different host plants. This research has been carried out at Entomology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The study consisted of two experiments designed using a randomized group design with 20 species of host plants and ten repeats. The method is done by surveying or observation methods into the field, with exploration of the type of host plant S. frugiperda. Observation of feeding egg laying preferences is done by observing for 5 days by observing the number of leaves laid, the number of egg groups, the number of eggs, the number of hatched eggs and the number of eggs not hatched. Observation of feeding preferences is carried out 1x24 hours by observing the number of larvae attracted to the host plant every 5 minutes for 60 minutes, leaf area and weight of larval feces. Observations are documented using mobile phones. The results of this study showed that the preference for laying eggs in the choice imago trial laid the highest eggs on babandotan, corn and wild kale plants. The lowest plants laid eggs by imago were horse jotang, orange sweet potato, and picacum grass. The difference in laying the choice test eggs did not have a significant difference. In the no-choice treatment trial, imago placed all plant species with insignificant differences, namely the number of egg groups on average 11-13 egg groups. The feeding preferences of the first instar larvae in the choice trial showed a significant difference. The highest number of larvae attracted to host plants were maize, wild kale and wild spinach with an average of 6-8 larvae. The plants with the lowest number of attracted larvae were purple sweet potato, white sweet potato, orange sweet potato, white sweet potato and horse jotang. Feeding preferences in the no-choice trial showed that the larvae were attracted to all plant species provided without choice. The conclusion of this research is the laying of eggs by imago S. frugiperda in the choice and no choice trials did not have a significant difference in the 20 host plant species. The feeding preferences of S. frugiperda larvae in the choice and no choice trials had significant differences. The highest number of larvae of S. frugiperda attracted was in maize, wild kale, and wild spinach and the lowest number of larvae was in sweet potato and horse jotang
