Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is ). a polyphagous pest originating from the United States and entering Indonesia in 2019, attacking corn plants by destroying the growing point of the plant so that the plant is damaged and even dies resulting in a loss of 5080% of corn production. . This stu dy aimed to determine the effect of four species of sweet potato and corn on the biology of Spodoptera frugiperda . This research was carried out by rearing Spodoptera frugiperda larvae from the egg phase which was designed using a randomized block design w ith four treatments and one control which was repeated three times. With host plants purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas ( Ipomoea batatas (L) Lam. cv. Antin 3), orange sweet potato (L) Lam. cv. Beta 1), yellow sweet potato ( Lam. cv. Be ta 2), white sweet potato ( Ipomoea batatas Ipomoea batatas (L) (L) Lam. cv. Papua solossa, and maize ( Zea mays Spodoptera frugiperda L.). Each replication was carried out rearing of larvae from a collection of eggs that hatched to become imago. This observation was carried ou t every day by observing the life cycle of Spodoptera frugiperda from the egg phase until imago. The results of this study that S. frugiperda fed sweet potato and corn had varied developments. S. frugiperda fed sweet potato developed slower than corn. Larv ae fed sweet potatoes experienced better growth than maize. The highest larval mortality was found in purple sweet potatoes. The highest percentage of larvae pupae and imago emergence was found in corn. The highest number of eggs laid and the percentage of eggs hatched was in corn while imago sweet potato did not produce eggs The conclusion of this study is that S. frugiperda is a polyphagous pest. Larvae fed sweet potato resulted in better growth in the larval stage, whereas in maize it resulted in better development in the life cycle. The highest larval mortality was found in purple sweet potatoes and the number of eggs laid by imago on sweet potatoes did not produce eggs
