TANGGAP FUNGSIONAL DAN KEMAMPUAN PREDASI TIGA SPESIES SERANGGA PREDATOR TERHADAP TELUR DAN LARVA Spodoptera frugiperda
Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall Armyworm) is an important pest of maize (Zea mays) in Latin America. In 2019, FAW entered Indonesia into 3 provinces, West Java, Banten and West Sumatra. FAW is a migratory pest that attacks more than 100 countries. In Indonesia, FAW infects 100% of maize plants in the vegetative phase (2 weeks old) which causes economic losses. Most pest control is done by spraying synthetic insecticides, whereas when natural enemies are abundant, insecticides are not needed. Natural enemies such as predators and parasitoids play an important role in pest population dynamics. This study aimed to determine the functional response and predation ability of three predator species against S. frugiperda eggs and larvae. This study was designed using a factorial randomized block design with 2 factors and 10 replications. The first factor is three species of predatory insects, namely Doru lineare, Paederus fuscipes, Micraspis discolor. The second factor is prey density. Predation test was carried out in a petri dish containing maize leaves. The predation ability test on eggs of prey density given 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 eggs of S. frugiperda. The predation ability test on the 1st instar prey density was 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 larvae. Prior to the experiment, each ekoral predator was fasted for 24 hours, after which the predator was transferred to each petri dish. The number of 1st instar larvae and eggs consumed by predators will be counted after 24 hours. Each treatment was repeated 10 times. The variables that being observed are calculating the number of prey that has been eaten, and the time that the predator takes to handle the prey. The results of this study showed the functional response of D. lineare has a type III, P. fuscipes showed a type III, and M. discolor showed a type II to S. frugiperda eggs. While the functional response to the 1st instar larvae of S. frugiperda, D. lineare showed type III, P. fuscipes showed type III, and M. discolor showed type I. Functional response type III showed an increase in predation which was slow at first, followed by the faster increase and then constant. While type I shows that the number of prey, preyed increases linearly according to prey density and it constant. The interaction between three species of predatory insects with density of prey eggs and 1st instar of S. frugiperda shows that the higher the density of prey, the higher the predation by predators. Conclusion of this study showed that D. lineare has the highest preying ability both on eggs and the 1st instar of S. frugiperda. Meanwhile, M. discolor has the lowest preying ability on eggs and the 1st instar of S. frugiperda. D. lineare is classified as an effective a biological control agent because the preying ability increases in line with prey density and has the highest preying ability compared to M. discolor and P. fuscipes.
