PREPARASI DAN KARAKTERISASI SUBMIKRO PARTIKEL KITOSAN-ALGINAT PEMBAWA EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN SIRIH (Piper betle L.) DENGAN VARIASI KONSENTRASI CaCl2
The lack of stability of betel leaf extract is caused by flavonoid compounds that are easily oxidized by the influence of temperature and high light intensity. Therefore, a suspension based on Chitosan-Alginate polymer was made using the ionic gelation method by reducing the particle size to submicro to increase stability and effectiveness of the active substances in it. This research aims to determine the effect of concentration variation of CaCl2 on the submicro particle formula. The study used 3 formulas with various concentration of CaCl2 20; 40; 100 µL. The optimum formula will be determined based on the highest %EE value and carried out particle characterization and physical stability test. The flavonoid content in the extract was 38.6 mg/g. The first, second, and third formulas had %EE respectively of 79.57%; 80.68%; 77,07%. The characterization results showed the particle size value of 530.8 nm; PDI 0.495; zeta potential +30.03 mV. The results of the physical stability test showed that the color changed to cloudy, faded, precipitation, the aroma didn’t change, and pH decreased on the 12th day. Based on the data obtained, the second formula as the optimum formula and submicro suspension had decent particle characteristics but lack in physical stability.
