outh Sumatra is one of the provinces that has a swamp area of 2.79 hectares, one of them was located in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, mainly in Pampangan District. Swamps in Pampangan District mostly had been used for agricultural it also had been for settlements, particularly in Bangsal and Kuro Villages. Most of the settlements had homegarden with various species of plants. The condition of the two villages are located in a low swamp area which influenced by the period and volume of flooding during the rainy season and dry season, it was presumed that it could effect the species of garden plants and their use for the community. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of homegarden plant species and their use in the lowland swamp areas of Bangsal Village and Kuro Village, Pampangan District, OKI Regency, South Sumatra. Sampling was conducted in September 2020. 20% of the total (KK) of household, sampling was taken based on stratified random technique according to wide of the homegarden. The sampling plot (yard) was grouped into 3 categories, namely narrow (> 100 m2), medium (100-300 m2) and wide (> 300 m2). Data analysis was performed by using the Shanon-Wiener diversity index and calculating the precentage of plant utilization, the percentage of plant habitus and the percentage of plant organ utilization. Research data was presented in to the tables, pictures and graphs.The results found 98 plant species consist of Magnoliopsida and Liliopsida classes. Magnoliopsida with 39 families and 71 species while the Liliopsida class consists of 15 families with 35 species. The diversity level of plant species categorized was categorized low-medium with a range of 0.7-1.82. The highest diversity index was categorized as medium (1.82) found in the narrow type yard Kuro Village and the lowest or the lowest categorized was (0.7) in the medium type yard Bangsal Village. The usage types of homegarden plants in the two villages were dominated by the use of food plants, while least of all were animal feed and natural dyes.
