PENGARUH WAKTU RETENSI TERHADAP EFISIENSI PENURUNAN Escherichia coli PADA SISTEM LAHAN BASAH BUATAN MENGGUNAKAN Typha angustifolia
Domestic wastewater is the largest pollutant that enters the water. The source of wastewater is greatly influenced by the pattern of using clean water. One of the indicators of microbial pollution in domestic wastewater is the presence of the Escherichia coli. As an effort to reduce domestic wastewater pollution, a trial was tested using technology of constructed wetland. One of the mechanisms that occurs during pathogen removal is natural die-off which is greatly influenced by the retention time. The retention time is the time duration by which the dissolved compound remains in the bioreactor for a certain period of time. The optimal retention time is needed to balance the pollutant load in the environment with water use in the community. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficiency of reduction Escherichia coli and the factors that play a role in reducing Escherichia coli in a system constructed wetland using Typha angustifolia with various retention times. The method used in this study is an experimental method, which is to see the decrease in the number of Escherichia coli in the vertical subsurface flow constructed wetland using Typha angustifolia with varying retention times. Water quality parameters were measured in situ using a Thermo Scientific instrument consisting of water temperature (°C) and pH, each repeated two times. Furthermore, the analysis of the number of Escherichia coli was calculated using the MPN method, each repeated two times. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by centering the average data and standard deviation. This study shows that the highest efficiency in reducing the number of Escherichia coli is at a retention time of 100 hours with a percentage value of 93.25% ± 2.04, while the retention time of 20 hours has the smallest efficiency value of 81.62% ± 1.03 and temperature and pH play a role in reducing Escherichia coli in artificial wetland systems with a temperature value of 30.3 ° C and pH amounting to 5.72 at a retention time of 100 hours using Typha angustifolia.
