PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH CAIR INDUSTRI KARET MENGGUNAKAN ADSORBEN KARBON DARI SEKAM PADI DAN BIOFILTER Saccharomyces cerevisiae DENGAN MEDIA BIOBALL
Treatment of rubber industrial waste water using rice husk carbon adsorbent and biofilter S. cerevisiae has been conducted. This research aims to determine the effect of rice husk carbon adsorbent and contact time in the biofiltration processed to decrease the value of BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia and total nitrogen. The waste water treatment process was carried out using adsorption, biofiltration and combination of the adsorption with biofiltration. Adsorption use carbon rice husk with a size of 60 mesh. Biofiltration uses biofilms formed by S. cerevisiae on bioball media which were placed in a waste water treatment reactor. The waste water sample was put into adsorbent unit and biofilter unit with contact time variations for 8, 16 and 24 hours. The adsorption using rice husk carbon was able to reduce levels of BOD 7%, COD 93%, TSS 97%, ammonia 86% and total nitrogen 70%. The biofiltration at 8 hours contact time was able to reduce levels of COD 9.5% and total nitrogen 42.7%, after 24 hours contact time was able to reduce levels of BOD 80.38%, TSS 95.66% and ammonia 71.95%. The combination of adsorption-biofiltration at 8 hours contact time was able to reduce levels of COD 40.21% and ammonia 91.52%, after 24 hours contact time was able reduce levels of BOD 79.86%, TSS 96.29%, ammonia 95.74% and total nitrogen 50.1%. The result of research indicate that the adsorption-biofiltration was affective for treating rubber industrial waste water with high ammonia levels.
