The aims of this study are to determine the antioxidant activity of purple sweet potato leaves in inhibiting lipid peroxidation of blood and pancreas in rats. The solvent used is n-hexane, which is non polar solvent. The test of antioxidant activity using TBARS method by measuring the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) plasma and pancreas induced by alloxan 150 mg/kg BW. The test animals were grouped into 6 groups where the normal group was given na-cmc only, positive control was given vitamin E 7,903 mg/kg BW, and for the treatment group was given a dose of n-hexane extract of purple sweet potato leaves 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg BW. The test results of the TBARS method indicate that at a dose of 200 mg/kg BW can reduce MDA plasma level 2,087 ± 0,067a and pancreatic MDA level 2,111 ± 0,083b. Statistic analysis of Duncan show that there is no significant different between the dose of 200 mg/kg BW and control positive group, so at dose 200 mg/kg BW has almost the same antioxidant activity as vitamin E.
