PENGARUH WAKTU PEMANASAN TERHADAP SIFAT STRUKTUR DAN MORFOLOGI SILIKA (SiO2) DARI LIMBAH SEKAM PADI
Rice husks are one of the raw materials that can be made into silica because the main component of rice husk ash is silica about 85 – 97%. Silica is one type of adsorbent that is widely used for various purposes. So that silica is made from rice husk waste. Silica is made using a solution of Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) 10% and Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) 1 N at a temperature of 85 °C with a stirring time of 120 minutes. Then the resulting silica powder is heated in the furnace with a variation of heating time of 30 minutes, 45 minutes and 60 minutes. Silica was then characterized using FTIR and it was proven that hydrogen content was reduced in heated silica powder. Variation in heating time also affects the resulting silica mass, the longer the heating time the smaller the mass of silica powder. After being tested FTIR characterization, further silica powder is tested XRD characterization. The results of the XRD characterization test showed that the largest size of silica powder particles were found in silica samples without heating at 29.31 nm. Then a warm-up time of 30 minutes resulted in a silica powder particle size of 20.78 nm. Furthermore, for a heating time of 45 minutes produces a silica particle size of 14.61 nm and a heating time of 60 minutes silica powder particle size of 29.22 nm. After that, SEM-EDS characterization test was carried out. The results of the SEM-EDS test showed that the 45-minute heated silica sample was the best silica sample with a purity of 70.76%.
