PEMBUATAN DAN KARAKTERISASI ELEKTRODA ALKALINE FUEL CELL (AFC) HASIL ELEKTRODEPOSISI PLATINA (Pt) DAN KROM (Cr) PADA BACKING LAYER KARBON (C)
A research has been done about preparation and characterization of alkaline fuel cell (AFC) electrode resulted from electrodeposition of platinum (Pt) and chromium (Cr) calalyst on backing layer carbon (C). The first step of this research was to make of backing layer from carbon and teflon emulsion and then analyzed conductivity of backing layer before and after the electrodeposition process. As supporting data were analysis hydrophobicity, deposited mass of Pt Cr analysis, analysis performance of electrode by cyclic voltammetry, and analysis structure, morphology and catalyst composition by EDX-SEM. The results of this study indicate qualifled backing layer, the pores of the meeting, hydrophobic and high conductivity. The average conductivity before elecrodeposition the backing layer of the surface and cross 1.910.10'1 mhos and 2,422.10'2 mhos, while the conductivity of electrode after electrodeposition has increased on the surface at Pt/Cr = 0.2/0.8 mg/cm2 were 1.693.10*1 mhos. This shows the role of Cr to improve the conductivity of Pt. The analysis of physical surface electrode and the highest mass of platinum deposite was Pt/Cr = 0.4/0.6 mg/cm2 with the measured current at 0.065 A and 0.003 A/cm2 of current density. Voltammogram of cyclic voltammetry was good at Pt/Cr = 0.6/0.4 mg/cm2, while analysis of EDX-SEM, deposited composition of Pt/Cr was compare to mass of Pt/Cr that has used.
